BioEngineering
Human Applications Laboratory
Biocytics™’ BioEngineering facility includes a human applications laboratory (HAL), which is a laboratory specially designed for processing and culturing human cells for cell-based clinical therapies. HALs provide a research environment in which new analytical methods can be devised and clinical-grade therapeutic products can be developed. Since the cells are extensively manipulated in this type of lab, they are regulated by the FDA as a “biologic drug product” through the office of Cellular and Gene Therapies http://www.fda.gov/cber/index.html ). This type of regulation is different than that of a blood bank, where the transfused blood is only minimally manipulated. Biocytics™ HAL will be used to investigate cancer treatments and cellular therapies, and to enhance the development of personalized medicine.
